Vigan: From a Historic Town to a Thriving Heritage City

   

Vigan is one of the most beautiful and historic places in the Philippines. It boasts of old houses, cobblestone streets, and rich culture. From a small municipality to becoming a city, Vigan's change in status was maintained with the heritage and tradition that it kept along the way. This is what makes Vigan unique and special.


   In the past, Vigan was a simple municipality where people lived their lives. It was a significant trading center for Chinese merchants even before the Spanish came. During the Spanish period, big houses and streets, including churches, were built; thus, the appearance that Vigan has today is famous. Back then, most people worked as farmers, traders, or fishermen. It was very peaceful with such culture and history.


  Vigan became a city through Republic Act No. 8988 in the year 2001. Such change has really helped Vigan grow and develop in many aspects. Becoming a city meant more services and more opportunities for its people. However, it also presented challenges, like keeping its old charm while modernizing. Leaders and people of Vigan were working hard not to lose their heritage during such transition.


  Today, Vigan is a popular tourist destination and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists love walking along Calle Crisologo, visiting museums, and buying local crafts like woven cloth and pottery. Vigan’s food, like the famous Vigan longganisa, is also a big hit. Thanks to tourism, the city has become more prosperous, and its people enjoy better facilities and opportunities.


  Vigan's transformation from a small municipality to the much-loved city is indeed a story of hard work and love for its history. A place can surely grow and get better without losing its roots, as Vigan has shown. It continues to inspire visitors by its beauty, culture, and balance between past and present.

MEANINGFUL QUATER TWO WITH HTML

  This quarter I gained so much knowledge and valuable insights from the world of HTML codes and tags. I learned how to make web pages using tags like <html>,<body>,<head> and elements such as <h1> to <h6> for headings, <p> for paragraph and <a> for hyperlinks. Unlocking how these codes work and function was both exciting and rewarding. I learned making tables, inserting images, files and more. This lesson is very advanced and I'm happy that we encounter this as early as now for us to have a knowledge for the future. Not just about tags and codes but also I learned how to manage my time in doing all of my hands on activities for me to pass it on time.     Despite the happiness and excitement, I also faced challenges especially on interpreting what codes or tags I will use. There's so many tags and codes that it comes to the point thay I don't know what to use anymore, like the difference of using bg body color and body background....

A New Learnings

   In the third quarter, I learned a lot about web development, especially HTML and how websites are organized. I discovered how to use HTML frames to divide a webpage into sections, which helps in creating a clear layout. I also explored HTML lists, which made it easier for me to organize content on a page. Learning about Content-Based Retrieval (CBR) was another interesting discovery, as it showed me how web pages can search for and display relevant content based on what users are looking for. This gave me a better understanding of how websites work behind the scenes.  However, I did face some challenges. One of the main difficulties was working with HTML frames. It was tricky to get everything aligned correctly, and sometimes the layout didn’t look the way I wanted. I also struggled with CBR, especially in figuring out how to use it to make the content retrieval process smooth.
